TRANS Padang, The New Face of Padang Public Transportation : Are We Ready for This ?

TRANS Padang is the newest public transportation in Padang which is officially introduced on 13 February 2014 by Dirjen Bina Sistem Transportasi Perkotaan, Rasman Ginting and Walikota Padang, Fauzy Bahar. TRANS Padang will replace the use of bus that is claimed as the sollution of a number of traffic problems in Padang. TRANS Padang, which is equipped with air conditioner, has 40 capacities of passengers, which 20 passengers sit and 20 passengers stand. As the early stage, there will be 10 units of TRANS Padang that will be used to serve passengers for the route all along 18 Km from Lubuk Buaya to Pasar Raya Padang. According to the Dinas Perhubungan Dan Transportasi the replacement of the bus to TRANS Padang will bring good impacts. Otherwise, there are two perspectives about this policy which one supports whether other refuses with their own reasons and facts.

For those who support the use of Trans Padang as the new public transportation state that the use of bus is not suitable anymore for Padang city. Most of the bus are too old and not in good condition. These makes the passengers feel not safe and uncomfortable. TRANS Padang will be the solution of those problem because it is equipped with several convenient facilities such as air conditioner and priority seats.

Moreover, many accidents that are caused by the bus driver become the reason to support the use of TRANS Padang. Based of factual data, most of the bus drivers drive too fast. They run against time to chatch the target and often do not obey the traffic signs. As the result, accident often happens and endangers the passengers.

Furthermore, the people who are pro say that this policy will teach us to be more dicipline. In this case, TRANS Padang prepares special bus stops in particular distance all along the route. TRANS Padang only takes and drops the passenger in the bus stop. This will teach us to follow the rules.

On the other hand, those who refuse this policy are the drivers of the bus which lose their job since TRANS Padang is introduced. According to the Dinas Perhubungan dan Transportasi, there are 23 buses that cannot be operated again since then. As the result, the drivers have to find new job. This may cause another problems.

Moreover, most of the passengers who reject this policy say that the amount of TRANS Padang itself is not enough to supply the need of passengers. According to the new Walikota Padang, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, 10 units of TRANS Padang that are used now are not sufficient. Most of passengers complain because they need longer time to wait. As a result, they will be late to reach the destination and may be late for work.

In addition, most of the passengers also complain about the fee that is higher than usual. TRANS Padang determines that the fee for adult is Rp. 3500, Rp. 500 higher than usual whether the fee for student is Rp. 1500, also Rp. 500 higher than usual. Most of the passengers expect a cheaper public transportation than before but the truth makes them quite disappointed.

As a conclusion, TRANS Padang can be said as a new face of Padang public transportation. At the beginning of its appearance, this policy raises two point of views when one view supports whether another refuses. Some people who refuses claim that TRANS Padang has higher fee than others public transportation. Beside that, the amount of TRANS Padang itself cannot supply the needs of all passanger. Moreover, the replacement of bus to TRANS Padang may cause another problem that the drivers of bus will lose their job. On the other side, this policy has a good impact for environment. TRANS Padang which is designed as good as possible will make the passenger safer and more comfortable. The usage of TRANS Padang also teach us to be neat, clear and more dicipline. In addition to these, the number of accident may decrease. So, the use of TRANS Padang brings good impact and we have to support this although there are still many improvements that have to be done in order to serve a comfortable public transportation service

  2. This is a good essay but why you write only in one paragraph? It is better to make your essay in paragraphs in order to make it clear which one is introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and concluding paragraph.
    By the way, is there any sources?
